Peace, Quiet and Calm

In a world that is becoming busier, louder and more chaotic, peace, quiet and calm are becoming some of the most valuable assets we can possess.
Every day we are surrounded by noise—phones, notifications, social media, the news, advertising, opinions, distractions, deceptions, manipulations and constant pressure to be busy.
The world tells us to hustle, react and keep moving.
But martial arts teaches us something different.
It teaches us to breathe, to become still, to observe and to respond calmly rather than to simply react.
The ancient traditions understood that a calm mind is a powerful mind.
When your mind is constantly disturbed, you become easier to distract, influence and manipulate.
But when you can remain calm while everything around you is chaotic, you have something very valuable: control of yourself.
Be the eye of the tornado.
Don't be afraid of silence.
Learn to sit quietly.
Learn to breathe deeply.
Learn to be comfortable with your own thoughts.
Because as the world becomes noisier, your ability to remain calm will become a great strength.
And perhaps one of the greatest things martial arts can give us isn't the ability to defeat someone else...
But the ability to remain peaceful when the world around us isn't.
