19. The Black Belt Oath (Part 2 of 3)

Master's Message children's class discussion topic of the week.

After completing and passing your black belt grading you will be awarded your black belt.

Part of the black belt ceremony, before you receive your black belt and black belt certificate is reciting (saying) the Black Belt Oath. This is where we 'swear in' a new black belt.

There are three paragraphs.

This week we will discuss paragraph number TWO.

Black Belt Oath (Paragraph 2 of 3)

I sincerely pledge to honor my instructors and my school

with loyalty and support,

and to value and carry on the Martial Arts tradition

with respect and dignity.

Honor – Respect your school, instructors, staff. and classmates. Follow the school rules. Behave like a black belt not just at Cobra, but outside of Cobra also. Speak about Cobra, our instructors, staff and students to everyone in a good and positive way.

Loyalty – Similar to honor. Support the school. Volunteer to help out with the younger kid's classes which also develops your confidence, character, and communication skills. Ask your friends to come for a free trial.

Support – Again is related to Honor and Loyalty. Help out where you can. Help other students. Help to teach the little kid's classes. Support your school by buying your equipment from the Cobra shop rather than our competitors. Wear Muay Thai uniform during Muay Thai weeks.

Carry on the Martial Arts tradition – Means to continue training in martial arts forever as an important part of your life. Fourth dan black belt is the first Master's level and is a great long-term goal for you to keep in mind to help you carry on the martial arts tradition. Pass on your well-earned knowledge and skills to younger and lower-level students by helping them, or apply to join the Instructor Team.
